Religious Education at CBI

Congregation Beth Israel (CBI) offers a comprehensive Religious School program for grades Pre-K through Confirmation. We encourage families to begin formal religious education as early as possible so that children can both learn about our Jewish heritage and participate meaningfully in our Jewish community. Our students begin to learn Bible stories, Jewish customs, holidays, traditions, and even their Hebrew letters in our Pre-K classes. By the third grade they are ready to begin reading Hebrew. Weekly assemblies provide opportunities for Jewish music and lively interaction with Rabbi Charlie. Our curriculum includes age appropriate lessons, materials, and projects that foster a strong Jewish identity and an understanding of Judaism. Beyond Bar and Bat Mitzvah, our Confirmation class reinforces the Jewish core value of lifelong learning.

Below are our forms for the 2010/2011 school year. For each student, please submit a Registration Form, Parent Volunteer Form and Emergency Form.

Religious 2010/2011

Dear Parents,

We hope you are having a wonderful and relaxing summer! We have mailed out the registration forms, student handbook, volunteer form, and calendar for CBI Religious School 2010/2011. It is vital to our planning process to have all registration materials and tuition payments returned to us by August 15, 2010. This allows us the needed time to purchase books, prepare materials, and ensure a smooth and welcoming start to Religious School.

This year we welcome a new Religious School co-director, Anna Eisen. Anna has been with CBI since it’s beginnings and has taught Hebrew and Judaica both at CBI and at her previous synagogues. We will work as a team along with Rabbi Charlie, our Religious School teachers and our Religious School Committee to provide a learning experience and environment that is enriching, educational, and fun. We hope you will volunteer your time to support our special events, holiday celebrations, and other special activities which both ensures our success and also demonstrates to your own children that you support their religious education. Several new volunteer opportunities are listed on the enclosed form.

This year we will begin Religious School on Sunday, September 5, 2010 which occurs over Labor Day Weekend. While we recognize that this is a holiday weekend, we feel it is important for our students to meet in classes and assemblies at least one Sunday prior to Rosh Hashanah which begins on Wednesday evening, September 8, 2010. It is also because of this early start date that we ask you to return your registration materials quickly so that we have ample time in August to prepare for Religious School. We hope we will not need to charge the $25.00 late fee that will be applied to all registration forms returned after August 15, 2010. In addition, all families must be members of CBI and current in regard to financial obligations to the congregation.

We look forward to a wonderful and exciting school year. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns. Meanwhile, have a fun and relaxing summer!
